Frequently Asked Questions

I have two left feet? Can I ever learn to dance?
Learning to dance is made easy and fun with our Studio's instructors. You'll be dancing after your first class. Seeing is believing!

How long will it take to learn to dance?
The length of time depends on how often you come to class and practice dance - but we'll have you dancing after your first class!

What is the predominant age group at the classes?
It varies. We have a range of ages in our classes from young to older. Everyone is welcome and will feel like a part of our family immediately.

Is previous salsa or dance experience necessary?
No. Every new beginner class has new dancers who are winging it. It is fresh in the minds of most experienced dancers that they were once beginners themselves, and in our studio, they are nothing but helpful and good-natured toward newcomers. We are geared to accommodate new dancers.

Is it necessary to bring a partner to class?
No. That's the great thing - you do not need a partner! Very few people are coupled at our classes. We rotate couples so that you can learn from experienced dancers as well as assist the newcomers.

How should we dress for class?
All of the sessions are intense so you definitely get a workout, so dress comfortably. There is no dress code. There are many dungarees.  But anything is fine.  Also, wear comfortable shoes that don't have rubber soles (rubber soles make it difficult to move and turn).

What benefits do I receive?
Dancing is the first step of social activity. Good dancing is a lifetime investment in fun, poise, confidence, improved personality and new friends. Beyond these, dancing is a superb physical conditioner - providing fun, without working at it! It opens up a wonderful new world of togetherness and a thriving year-round social calendar

What is a Salsalogy Dance Studio lesson like?
Private classes at Salsalogy Dance Studio run for 25 or 55 minutes and occur in the evenings by appointment. As you'll see by browsing our class schedule page. Dinner dances, practice sessions and workshops all vary in times, check the EVENTS for the specific event you are interested in. Our group classes operate on a 6 week session, are 55 minutes in length and meet once a week.

How long will it take to learn one of these styles?
Each person has their own learning curve. We recommend you feel very comfortable at one level before proceeding to a higher level. Ask your teacher if they think it's time for you to move up a level. Obviously, your success will depend greatly on your dedication to the style. The more you practice what you learn, the faster you will become comfortable with your style.

How big are your classes?
Our semi-privates and group classes vary in size from a minimum of 6 students to a maximum of 20 students. Workshops and other special events vary in size from a minimum of 6 students to a maximum of 50 students.

Should I take group classes or private lessons?
There are advantages to both forms of study, and ideally you should experience both. Group classes afford a student more opportunities for social interaction and social dancing (i.e., dancing with several different people), thus improving "real-world" lead and follow skills. Group classes are also a good venue for learning basic patterns. Of course, the drawback to group classes is a lack of personal, one-on-one attention. If you are preparing to learn to dance to a specific song, for instance, your wedding song, you will of course need private lessons. Private lessons are also ideal for developing and improving your dance posture, basic movement skills, and "fixing" whatever elements are in need of improvement in your own dancing.

What are the payment policies?
All session payments are due on the First Class of each session. Payments for individual classes are due prior to the start of the class. Any missed classes from our reason will be rescheduled. Salsalogy Dance Academy accepts payment by cash, check and credit cards. Registered students who enroll two new people after their first month will receive a disscount for the next session. This does not include socials or workshop events. Tuition increases are at the discretion of the studio and all students will be notified accordingly.
